CHLORCYCLIZINE-PSEUDOEPHEDRINE

Chlorcyclizine and Pseudoephedrine is a drug combination used to relieve symptoms caused by common cold, flu, allergies or other breathing illnesses such as sinusitis and bronchitis, temporarily. Chlorcyclizine is an antihistamine that works by reducing the effects of the natural chemical histamine in the body during allergies. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that helps decrease swelling and congestion by narrowing the blood vessels in the nose.

This medication is used to temporarily treat symptoms such as watery eyes, itchy eyes or nose, and sneezing caused by the common cold, flu, allergies, or other breathing illness. This medication may also be used in other conditions to be determined by your doctor.

Do not use this drug if:

  • You are allergic to the content of this drug or if you have any other allergies.
  • You have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days.

Common side effects may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry Mouth, Nose, or Throat
  • Excitability
  • Headache
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Nausea
  • Trouble Sleeping
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness

Severe side effects may include:

  • Severe Allergic Reactions (Rash; Hives; Itching, Difficulty Breathing)
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty Urinating or Inability to Urinate
  • Fast or Irregular Heartbeat
  • Fever, Chills, or Persistent Sore Throat
  • Hallucinations
  • Mental or Mood Changes (e.g, Nervousness)
  • Persistent Trouble Sleeping
  • Restlessness
  • Seizures
  • Severe or Persistent Dizziness, Drowsiness, Light-Headedness, or Headache
  • Tremor
  • Blurred Vision

Precautions

Before taking this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to any of its ingredients; or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are going to undergo a surgery.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Your medical history, especially of:
    • Breathing Problems (such as Asthma, Emphysema)
    • Diabetes
    • Glaucoma
    • Heart Problems
    • High Blood Pressure
    • Kidney Problems
    • Liver Disease
    • Seizures
    • Stomach or Intestinal Problems (such as Ulcers, Blockage)
    • Overactive Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism)
    • Difficulty Urinating (such as Due to Enlarged Prostate)

This drug may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision. Avoid activities requiring alertness or clear vision such as driving until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit the use of alcohol and certain other medications that cause drowsiness.

Older adults and children may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially dizziness, drowsiness, mental or mood changes, constipation, fast heartbeat, trouble urinating, or blood pressure changes.

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Possible interactions with this drug are:

  • Alcohol – It Can Increase Certain Side Effects of this Medication
  • Other Cold, Allergy, Cough, or Sleep Medicine.
  • Narcotic Pain Medicine
  • Muscle Relaxer
  • Medicine for Anxiety, Depression, or Seizures

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Irregular Heartbeat
  • Hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Seizures
