Precautions
Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:
- If you are allergic to the content of this drug or if you have any other allergies.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you have certain medical conditions that requires you to be cautious with your other drug intake.
This drug may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision. Avoid activities requiring alertness or clear vision such as driving until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit the use of alcohol and certain other medications that cause drowsiness.
The decongestant in this medicine may cause some people to be nervous or restless or to have trouble in sleeping. If you have trouble in sleeping, take the last dose of this medicine for each day a few hours before bedtime. Check with your doctor if you have any questions about this.
Interactions
Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.
Possible interactions with this drug are:
- MAO inhibitors like Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Methylene Blue, and Moclobemide.
- Opioid pain or cough relievers (such as codeine, hydrocodone) for they can increase drowsiness.
- Alcohol
- Drugs for Sleep or Anxiety (such as Alprazolam, Lorazepam, Zolpidem)
- Muscle Relaxants (such as Carisoprodol, Cyclobenzaprine)
- Antihistamine applied to the skin (such as diphenhydramine cream, ointment, spray) because increased side effects may occur.
- Other Antihistamines (such as Chlorpheniramine, Diphenhydramine)
- Levocetirizine because it is similar to Cetirizine.
Inform your doctor and laboratory personnel that you are using this drug if you are going to undergone certain laboratory tests. This drug may interfere with the result and may give false results.
