CARBENOXOLONE

Bivalirudin

Carbenoxolone is a synthetic by-product of glycyrrhizinic acid (a constituent of licorice). It protects the mucosal barrier from acid-pepsin damage and increases mucin production.

Carbenoxolone is used in the following medical conditions:

  • Gastro-esophageal reflux disease
  • Mouth ulcerations

Carbenoxolone should not be given to people with the following medical conditions:

  • Hypokalemia
  • Heart failure and in those receiving cardiac glycosides
  • Pregnancy
  • Elderly
  • Child aged less than 3 years

Carbenoxolone may have the following side effects:

  • Sodium and water retention
  • Hypokalemia

Precautions

Special precautions should be observed by people with the following medical conditions:

  • Heart disease
  • Hypertension
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease

 

Interactions

Carbenoxolone may interact with the following medicines:

  • Amiloride
  • Spironolactone
  • Diuretics
  • Digitalis glycosides
