Overview and Facts

Many cancer patients suffer from cancer pain. If you have cancer that has spread or recurred, your risk of having pain is higher.

Cancer pain takes various forms. It will be dull, throbbing, sharp or expending. It might be sustained, intermittent, mild, moderate or severe. How much pain you feel depends upon different factors, including the kind of cancer you have, how extraordinary it is, the area where it is located and your pain characteristics.

Keep in mind that most cancer pain is treatable and that controlling your pain is principal to your treatment.

Cancer pain can be:

  • Acute or lasting for a few weeks only
  • Chronic or lasting for months to years.

  • Phantom pain
  • Referred pain

Symptoms

The level of pain you have with cancer depends upon:

  • The kind of cancer you have
  • where it is
  • The period of your illness
  • Regardless of whether the disease has hurt any nerves
  • Different factors can moreover affect how you feel pain, for instance, fear, pressure, depression, and stress.

Diagnosis & Medications

Diagnosis

If the pain is from cancer itself, it will be limited to the area of the tumor. As a tumor creates, it can press on nerves, bones or organs. The tumor can moreover release inflammatory substances that can cause pain. Or your body’s reaction to the inflammatory substances can cause pain.

Treatment

Pain medications can conventionally control pain. These medications include:

  • Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen and ibuprofen
  • Diverse medicines including antidepressants, anti-seizure drugs, and steroids.
