Butizide is a thiazide diuretic which works by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium ions in the distal tubules, thereby resulting in an increased sodium and water excretion as well as potassium and hydrogen ions.

The medication dose given by your physician is based on your health conditions, other medications or food supplements taken, and your reaction to the treatment. Butizide may have the following side effects:

  • Orthostatic hypotension
  • Photosensitivity
  • Hypokalemia
  • Anorexia
  • Epigastric distress
