BMI

BMI stands for body mass index. BMI is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of his or her height in meters. It is an inexpensive and easy-to-perform screening method to determine whether a person is underweight, has normal or healthy weight, overweight, or obese.

BMI chart – World Health Organization (WHO) criteria

BMI less than 18.5 – Underweight

BMI 18.5 to 24.9 – Normal

BMI 25 to 29.9 – Overweight

BMI 30 and above – Obese

For example, to compute the BMI of a Filipino man who stands six feet tall and weighs 200 pounds, convert his measurements to metric units: 90.72 kilograms divided by 1.83 meters squared. His BMI would be 27 (overweight).
