ANTIPYRINE + BENZOCAINE

This medication is a combination of two drugs—Benzocaine and Antipyrine. Benzocaine is a topical anesthetic that helps to numb the pain. Antipyrine is an analgesic that helps to decrease the pain and inflammation. This product may also contain glycerin, which helps to soften the earwax, and/or zinc acetate, which helps to protect the skin.

Antipyrine and Benzocaine  is used to relieve pain, congestion, and swelling caused by middle ear inflammation (Acute Otitis Media). This medication is also used to help remove earwax.

Do not use Antipyrine/ Benzocaine if you are allergic to any ingredient of this drug or to similar medicines, or if your eardrum is perforated.

If any of these apply to you, contact your doctor or health care provider right away.

Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. However, Seek immediate medical attention if a very serious allergic reaction happen after you take this drug.

Symptoms of serious side effects may include:

  • Symptoms of Allergic Reactions such as Burning, Stinging, Redness, Rash, Itching
  • Swelling of the Face, Tongue, or Throat
  • Severe Dizziness
  • Trouble Breathing
  • New Pain in or around the Ears

Precautions

Before using Antipyrine and benzocaine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are/have:

  • Allergic to Antipyrine or Benzocaine or Any Other Medications
  • Taking Other Prescription and Nonprescription Medications, Vitamins, Nutritional Supplements, and Herbal Products You are Taking or Plan to Take.
  • Hole in Your Ear Drum(s) Or Ear Tube(s). Your Doctor Will Probably Tell You not to use this Medication.
  • Pregnant, Plan to Become Pregnant, or are Breast-Feeding. If You Become Pregnant While Using Antipyrine And Benzocaine Otic, Call Your Doctor.

 

Interactions

To avoid drug interactions, tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.

This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call emergency hotline.
