ALISKIREN FUMARATE

Aliskiren Fumarate is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as selective direct renin inhibitor. It inhibits the enzyme renin and prevents conversion of angiotensinogen into angiotensin I and therefore inhibits the production of angiotensin II and aldosterone. Aliskiren leads to a decrease in plasma renin activity and concentrations of angiotensin I, angiotensin II and aldosterone.

Uses

Aliskiren Fumarate is used in the treatment of hypertension.

Warnings

Aliskiren Fumarate should not be used in the following conditions:

History of angioedema
Severe renal impairment
Concomitant use with ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonists in patients with diabetes mellitus and kidney disease
Concomitant use with ciclosporin, itraconazole and quinidine
Pregnancy

Precautions

Special precautions should be observed in people with the following conditions:

Congestive heart failure
Sodium or volume depletion
Diarrhea
Lactation

Other antihypertensives
ACE inhibitors
Angiotensin II receptor antagonists
NSAIDs
Atorvastatin
Itraconazole
Ketoconazole
Verapamil
Furosemide
Potassium-sparing diuretics
Potassium supplements or any substances that may increase serum potassium levels
Ciclosporin
Quinidine

Overdose & Brands

Aliskiren Fumarate overdose may give rise to hypotension. Seek medical help immediately.
