ALISKIREN FUMARATE

Bivalirudin

Aliskiren Fumarate is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as selective direct renin inhibitor. It inhibits the enzyme renin and prevents conversion of angiotensinogen into angiotensin I and therefore inhibits the production of angiotensin II and aldosterone. Aliskiren leads to a decrease in plasma renin activity and concentrations of angiotensin I, angiotensin II and aldosterone.

Aliskiren Fumarate is used in the treatment of hypertension.

Aliskiren Fumarate should not be used in the following conditions:

  • History of angioedema
  • Severe renal impairment
  • Concomitant use with ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonists in patients with diabetes mellitus and kidney disease
  • Concomitant use with ciclosporin, itraconazole and quinidine
  • Pregnancy

Aliskiren Fumarate can give rise to the following side effects:

  • Diarrhea
  • Dyspepsia
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Abdominal pain
  • Hypotension
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Back pain
  • Cough
  • Rashes
  • Hyperuricemia
  • Gout
  • Renal calculi
  • Hyperkaliemia
  • Decreases in hemoglobin levels (dose-related)
  • Angioedema
  • Seizures
  • Anaphylactic reactions

Precautions

Special precautions should be observed in people with the following conditions:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Sodium or volume depletion
  • Diarrhea
  • Lactation

Interactions

Aliskiren Fumarate may interact with the following medicines:

  • Other antihypertensives
  • ACE inhibitors
  • Angiotensin II receptor antagonists
  • NSAIDs
  • Atorvastatin
  • Itraconazole
  • Ketoconazole
  • Verapamil
  • Furosemide
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics
  • Potassium supplements or any substances that may increase serum potassium levels
  • Ciclosporin
  • Quinidine

Aliskiren Fumarate overdose may give rise to hypotension. Seek medical help immediately.
