Most premature ejaculation gets better over time and does not require treatment. Relaxation techniques and distraction methods may help to delay ejaculation. Stopping or cutting down on the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs may improve how well they can control ejaculation. For more serious cases of premature ejaculation, there is a variety of techniques and treatments that can be used.
Some of the treatments include:
- Counselling – It may help reduce anxiety related to premature ejaculation. Since premature ejaculation may happen because of psychological factors, counselling would help to track down the causes of your anxiety and stress, and learn how to manage it.
- Medications –To reduce sensation, anaesthetic creams and sprays that has numbing agent like benzocaine may be used 10 to 15 minutes before sex to help delay ejaculation. However, these products may bring side effects and some even resulted to unsatisfied sex.
A variety of drugs can help delay orgasm. Some antidepressant drugs and analgesics are believed to have delayed orgasm as part of their side effects. Phospodiesterase-5 inhibitors or medications that treat erectile dysfunction are also used for premature ejaculation. These drugs, however, doesn’t really treat premature ejaculation and might bring some unwanted side effects. It is important to talk with your doctor before trying anything.
- Behavioral Techniques– Some of the behavioural techniques that can be used to delay ejaculation are:
- Squeeze Technique- Whenever a man is about to experience premature orgasm, he or his partner may squeeze the shaft of his penis between a thumb and two fingers. He or his partner must hold it for about 20 seconds then let go, and then resume sexual relations. This technique can be repeated as often as needed.
- Pelvic Floor exercises- Weak pelvic floor muscles might impair your ability to delay ejaculation. Pelvic floor exercises (Kegel exercises) can help strengthen these muscles.
Some other techniques that may delay premature ejaculation are masturbating 1 to hours before the real intercourse and using condom.
