HALOTHANE

Halothane belongs to the class of halogenated hydrocarbons and is generally used as anesthetics.It works by depressesing both cerebral function and sympathetic activity. It also suppresses salivary, bronchial and gastric secretions and dilates the bronchioles.

Uses

This medication is used for the induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia.

Warnings

This drug act in the brain and causes temporary state of unconsciousness. Avoid activities requiring alertness or clear vision such as driving until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit the use of alcohol and certain other medications that cause drowsiness.

Nausea
Irregular Heartbeat
Jaundice or Severe Liver Damage
Abnormally High Fever
Vomiting
Heart attack

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

If you have certain medical conditions such as:
- Malignant Hyperthermia
- Raised CSF Pressure
- History of Unexplained Jaundice or Acute Hepatic Damage from Previous Exposure to Halothane
