Tolperisone, is a piperidine derivative, and a centrally acting muscle relaxant. It has been used for the symptomatic treatment of muscle spasm and spasticity.
Tolperisone is a muscle relaxant that acts on spasticity by interacting with upper motor neurons. It is also used for treating chronic pain. It is primarily used for the treatment of neurological related muscle spasticities and painful muscle spasms in rheumatologic conditions.
This medication should not be given in people with myasthenia gravis.

Precautions
Only limited data are available about the safety in children, young adults, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It is unknown whether tolperisone is excreted into mother’s milk.
Interactions
Tolperisone does not have a remarkable potential for interactions with other drugs. It cannot be excluded that combination with other centrally acting muscle relaxants, benzodiazepines or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may involve a dose reduction essential in some cases.
Excitability has been found after ingestion of over dosage in children. In suicide studies of three isolated cases, it is found that ingestion of tolperisone was the reason behind the death.
