MEPHENOXALONE

Mephenoxalone is a muscle relaxant and is a mild anxiolytic. It inhibits neuron transmission, and relaxes skeletal muscle groups by inhibiting the reflex arc.

Mephenoxalone is used for the treatment, control, prevention, and development of the following illnesses, conditions and symptoms:

  • Muscle relaxant
  • Anxiety

Mephenoxalone may also be used for purposes not listed here

This medicine should not be used by those who have porphyria and those who are pregnant and lactating.

Mephenoxalone may have side effects such as:

  • Drowsiness
  • GI disturbances
  • Paraesthesia
  • Weakness
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Ataxia
  • Paradoxical excitement
  • Visual disturbances
  • Arrhythmias
  • Hypotension
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Blood dyscrasias

Precautions

Precautions should be observed by those who have the following conditions:

  • Hepatic or renal impairment
  • Depression
  • Muscle weakness
  • Impaired respiratory function
  • Elderly or debilitated patients
  • History of epilepsy

This drug may impair the ability to operate machinery.

 

Interactions

Mephenoxalone may have additive effects with CNS depressants such as alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, and opioid analgesics.

Overdosage would lead to increase in its side effects such as drowsiness, GI disturbances, paraesthesia, weakness, headache, dizziness, ataxia, paradoxical excitement, visual disturbances, arrhythmias, hypotension, hypersensitivity reactions and blood dyscrasias.
