INFLUENZA A (H3N2)

Influenza A (H3N2v) is a non-human influenza virus that normally infected pigs hence called “swine influenza viruses.” It may be spread to humans through a direct contact with the pig’s coughs or sneeze. There also is some evidence that you might get infected by touching something that has virus on it and then touching your own mouth or nose. Humans may also inhale particles containing influenza virus.

Symptoms of H3N2v infection are similar to those of seasonal flu viruses, including:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny Nose
  • Body Aches
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

DIAGNOSIS

To diagnose Influenza A infection, your doctor might examine your symptoms as well as do a physical exam. Sometimes a rapid flu test is performed using a nasal or throat swab.

 

TREATMENT

If your health care provider determines that you have the flu, treatment can vary depending on your age, overall health and length of time that you have been sick.

Influenza antiviral drug may include:

  • Oseltamivir
  • Zanamivir

You should follow the doctor’s prescription. Don’t try to self-medicate.
