Treatment of hypertension and heart failure. Prophylaxis in asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction to delay the onset of symptomatic heart failure and to reduce the incidence of coronary ischemic effect including myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Do not give to patients with aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction; kidney and vascular disease; severe resistant hypertension; peripheral vascular disease; or generalized atherosclerosis.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. Dry cough may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Precautions
Before taking enalapril, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other ACE inhibitors (such as benazepril); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Interactions
Some products that may interact with this drug include: aliskiren, certain drugs that weaken the immune system/increase the risk of infection (such as everolimus, sirolimus), lithium, drugs that may increase the level of potassium in the blood (such as ARBs including losartan/valsartan, birth control pills containing drospirenone), sacubitril.
If overdose is suspected, bring the victim to the hospital immediately.
