Description: Kaolin is an adsorbent antidiarrhoeal agent that binds to and traps bacteria and its toxins in the gut. It also binds to water in the gut, which helps to make the stools firmer.
Kaolin is possibly effective for soreness and swelling inside the mouth caused by readiation treaments. There are also insufficient evidence for its use in diarrhea, ulcers, and inflammation in the colon. As such, more evidence is needed in order to prove its effectiveness.
Kaolin can cause some side effects including constipation, particularly in children and the elderly. It seems to be safe for most people but it must not be inhaled. It can cause lung problems.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Kaolin is considered POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth in appropriate amounts during pregnancy.
