Oral Mucolytic

 

DOSAGE

  • Adult: By mouth; with food. Initial: 2.25 g/day in divided doses, then 1.5 g/day in divided doses as condition improves.
  • Child: 2-5 year 62.5-125 mg 4 times daily; 6-12 year 250 mg three times a day.
  • Should not be used in patients with the following conditions:
    • Active peptic ulceration.
  • Caution for use in patients with history of peptic ulcer disease.

Nausea, gastric discomfort, GI bleeding, skin rash, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme.

If overdose is suspected, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include:

  • GI disturbance. Management: May perform gastric lavage, followed by observation.
