ITOPRIDE HCL

Itopride is a drug that is known as a prokinetic benzamide and is different from domperidone. It hinders dopamine and acetylcholine esterase enzyme and has gastrokinetic impacts. Itopride is used in the treatment of functional dyspepsia and other gastrointestinal conditions. It is both a D2 receptor agonist and an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.

Itopride HCl is used for the following conditions:

 

  • Treatment of chronic gastritis or non-ulcer dyspepsia ie, feeling of abdominal bloatedness, upper abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea and vomiting

Do not give Itopride HCl to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to itopride hydrochloride or any of the excipients
  • Patients in whom an increase in gastrointestinal motility could be harmful eg, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation

Itopride HCl may have the following side effects:

  • Leukopenia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Anaphylactoid reaction
  • Increased prolactin level
  • Gynecomastia
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Tremo
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Increased saliva
  • Nausea
  • Jaundice
  • Rash, redness and itching

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

 

Interactions

Itopride HCl may interact with the following medicines:

  • Anticholinergic drugs

If you think that you have used Itopride HCl than its normal dosage, consult your doctor as soon as possible.
