BIMATOPROST TIMOLOL MALEATE

Bimatoprost Timolol Maleate is a combination drug that is composed of bimatoprost and timolol maleate.

Bimatoprost can decrease pressure within the eye that results from glaucoma of the open-angle type, or other eye diseases such as eye hypertension. Bringing down increased pressure within the eye can help prevent visual loss. This medicine maintain normal eye pressure by improving blood flow within the eyes.

Timolol is utilized to treat hypertension. Bringing down high blood pressure prevents the occurence of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medicine belongs to a class of medications known as beta blockers.

Bimatoprost Timolol Maleate is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Glaucoma (open-angle type)
  • Other eye diseases, such as ocular hypertension

Do not give Bimatoprost Timolol Maleate to people with the following conditions:

  • Certain types of heart rhythm problems (such as a slow heartbeat, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block)
  • Severe heart failure
  • Breathing problems (such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema)
  • Hypersensitivity to bimatoprost
  • Closed-angle glaucoma, or inflammatory or neovascular glaucoma
  • Active intraocular inflammation, such as iritisor uveitis

Bimatoprost Timolol Maleate may have the following side effects:

  • Tiredness
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Dizziness
  • Ocular pruritus
  • Swelling
  • Irritation and burning sensation
  • Conjunctival hyperaemia
  • Dry eye symptoms
  • Blurred vision
  • Periorbital erythema
  • Increased lacrimation
  • Hypertension
  • Abnormal liver function tests

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Active inflammationin the eyes (example uveitis)
  • Aphakic patient
  • Pseudophakic patient with torn posterior lens capsule
  • Risk factor for macular oedema
  • History of herpes simplex, or uveitis/iritis
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation
  • Treated stable heart failure
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Oeractive thyroid disease (hyperthyroidism)
  • Serious allergic reactions including those needing treatment with epinephrine
  • Blood circulation problems (such as Raynaud’s disease, peripheral vascular disease)
  • Mental/mood disorders (such as depression)
  • Acertain muscle disease (myasthenia gravis)

Interactions

Bimatoprost Timolol Maleate may interact with the following medicines:

  • Latanoprost
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Fingolimod
  • Drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove timolol from thebody (such as quinidine, SSRI antidepressants such as fluoxetine)
