It acts by dilating small arteries and large blood vessels in the body by opening the potassium channels in the cells. It also stimulates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, to cause vasodilatation in the veins. It improves blood circulation in the heart and prevents heart failure and heart attacks. It is available as an oral tablet.
