KNEECAP TRACKING DISORDER

Kneecap tracking disorder, also known as patellar tracking disorder, affects the kneecaps of the legs. In this condition, the kneecaps are out of place when the leg is straightened or bended. It can shift towards the outside or the inside.

This disorder can be caused by weak thigh muscles, tight muscles or tendons in the leg, stressful activities to the knee, traumatic injury to the knee, problems with knee bone structure and being overweight.

SYMPTOMS

The area and seriousness of knee pain relies upon the cause of the problem. Signs and symptoms that go with kneecap tracking disorder includes the following:

  • Swelling
  • Red and warmth to touch
  • Weakness
  • Sudden popping or crunching sound
  • Inability to completely bend the knee

DIAGNOSIS

The doctor will ask about your medical history as well as when the pain started and whether you have any injuries before. He or she will then do a physical exam and examine your knee as you sit, stand and walk.

X-rays of the knee may be requested to check the position and structure of the knee bones.

When your doctor is thinking about gout or pseudo gout, you’re going to have blood tests and arthrocentesis, a technique in which a little amount of fluid is removed from the inside of your knee joint with a needle and sent to a laboratory for examination.
