CARBAMAZEPINE

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tegretol

GENERIC NAME(S): CARBAMAZEPINE

Description: Carbamazepine slows down responses in the brain, making it effective in partial and generalised convulsions as well as in mixed types but not in petit mal seizures.

Carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant or anti-epileptic drug, is used to prevent and control seizures and relieve certain types of nerve pain (such as trigeminal neuralgia). This medication reduces the spread of seizure activity in the brain and restores the normal balance of nerve activity. This drug may also be used to treat certain mental/mood conditions (such as bipolar disorder) and other types of nerve pain.
