Weight reduction, with regards to health and well-being, refers to a decrease in body weight, due to loss of liquid, fat tissue or muscle mass, specifically bone mineral stores, muscle tissues, ligament, and other connective tissues.

These are the three body types and how they affect your weight loss:

  • Ectomorphis the body type that is the most resistant to weight gain as a result of quick digestion
  • Mesomorphs can lose and put on weight effectively, and can gain muscle rapidly
  • Endomorphs are those that can easily put on a lot of weight and body fat

You should give careful attention if  you encounter symptoms such as the following:

  • Extreme tiredness
  • Immediate loss of appetite
  • An increase in illnesses or infections

Other reasons for unexpected weight reduction:

Unexpected weight reduction doesn’t generally have an identifiable reason, but may be the consequence of:

  • Depression
  • An overactive thyroid organ (hyperthyroidism), or over-treating an underactive thyroid
  • Cancer
  • Specific medications
  • Alcohol misuse or medication abuse
  • Heart, kidney, lung or liver disease
  • Dental problems
  • Dysphagia (swallowing problems)
  • A bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, such as gastroenteritis, tuberculosis (TB) or HIV infection/AIDS
  • Dementia – individuals with dementia might not be able meet their eating needs

Weight reduction can result from a decline in body fluids, muscle mass, or fat.  It can be purposefully caused by exercise and abstaining from excessive food intake.

Regardless of whether your weight reduction objectives include attempting  to lose much weight or speeding up weight loss, you need to keep up with a healthy life style to avoid certain problems that may arise during weight reduction.
