TOGAVIRIDAE

Togaviridae disease is an infection caused by any in the family of togaviridae viruses. They dwell on humans, mammals, birds, and mosquitoes as their natural hosts.

Some of the important human pathogens of the virus’ family include:

  • Easten Equine Encephalitis virus- Which causes Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Birds are the main reservoir.

Symptoms: fever, headaches, pain, encephalitis.

  • Western Equine Encephalitis virus- Which causes Western Equine Encephalitis. Birds and mammals are used as host.

Symptoms: headaches, pain, encephalitis, fever.

  • Venezuelan Equine virus- Uses mammals as their host. It causes Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis

Symptoms: headaches, pain, encephalitis, fever.

  • Chikungunya virus- Which causes Chikungunya fever.

Symptoms: rash, arthritis, fever and headache

  • Rubella virus- Humans are their main host.

Symptoms: fever, joint pain, headache, rash, swollen gland, or lymph nodes.

DIAGNOSIS

To confirm the presence of togavirus in your body, the doctor may perform several lab tests.

 

TREATMENT

Medications are used to manage the symptoms of this infection and to avoid further complications. Severe cases might need hospital attention.
