TICS

Tic is a muscle disorder that usually starts in childhood and is very common especially among males. This kind of problem is not really serious and it can be healed over a period of time but sometimes it can be disgusting because they can interfere our daily activities.

Tics are uncontrollable and unwanted movements of the muscles that can occur in any parts of the body.

Many of these cases can be resolved within a year. Uncontrollable movements of the limbs are known as motor tics.

Tics can happen when you are suffering from stress, anxiety, tiredness, excitement or happiness.

There are two different types of tics:

  • Motor tics
  • Vocal tics

Symptoms

Symptoms can be identified easily in vocal tics because the patient may try to repeat words or phrases all over again. Sometimes it can also cause the person to be uncomfortable with urges such as itchiness and tingling sensations.

Tics may occur during sleep and may vary according to type and severity of illness.

DIAGNOSIS

Tic disorders can be diagnosed based on its signs and symptoms. Your doctor will ask you about your medical history and then he/she will do physical examination and order blood testing, MRI scanning or imaging.

Treatment isn’t always needed if a tic is just mild and not causing any problems.  Avoiding stress can lessen the problem. Treatment depends on the tic disorder and the severity of it. Other cases heal on their own without proper treatment.

Severe tics that interfere with your daily life can be treated by medications or deep brain stimulation and other treatments.
