TAMSULOSIN + DUTASTERIDE

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride is a medication that is composed of two drugs: Tamsulosin and Dutasteride. Tamsulosin is a drug is also known as a selective alpha-1 adrenoceptor blocker. It blocks alpha-1 receptors in the prostate, urethra, and urinary bladder neck, leading to improved urinary flow in patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Dutasteride inhibits an enzyme that converts testosterone to 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) known as 5 alpha-reductase.

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

This drug should not be given to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to dutasteride and other 5-α-reductase inhibitors
  • Women
  • Children
  • History of orthostatic hypotension
  • Severe liver impairment

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride may have the following side effects:

  • Impotence
  • Decreased libido
  • Ejaculation disorders
  • Breast tenderness and enlargement
  • Postural hypotension
  • Dizziness
  • Vertigo
  • Headache
  • Infection
  • Asthenia
  • Back pain
  • Chest pain
  • Somnolence
  • Insomnia
  • Rhinitis
  • Pharyngitis
  • Cough
  • Sinusitis
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Tooth disorder
  • Blurred vision

Precautions

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride should not be handled by reproductive-age women. It should not be used in prostate cancer. Patients using Tamsulosin + Dutasterideshould not donate blood for up to six months after discontinuing the drug.

 

Interactions

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride may interact with the following medicines:

  • Moderate or strong inhibitors of CYP2D6 (eg. fluoxetine) or CYP34A (eg. ketoconazole, cimetidine)
  • Inhibitors of CYP3A4/5 such as ritonavir, ketoconazole, verapamil, diltiazem, cimetidine, troleandomycin, and ciprofloxacin
