This solution is used to supply water and salt (sodium chloride) to the body. Sodium chloride solution may also be mixed with other medications given by injection into a vein. It may be used as a way to give injectable medicines, to flush intravenous (IV lines), and for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Do NOT use sodium chloride solution if you are allergic to any ingredient in sodium chloride solution.
Redness, pain, or swelling at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: swelling hands/ankles/feet, trouble breathing, muscle cramps/weakness.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

This solution is safe to use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding when used as directed.
