S-ATENOLOL

S-Atenolol is a medicine that is known as a selective beta-1 blocker. It decreases heart rates during exercise according to the dose given. It also lowers renin levels in the blood and free fatty acids.

S-atenolol is used in the treatment of angina pectoris, hypertension and migraine.

Do not give S-atenolol to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Second and third degree heart block
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Bronchospasm
  • History of obstructive airway disease
  • Metabolic acidosis
  • Hypotension
  • Severe peripheral arterial disease
  • Sinus bradycardia

S-atenolol may bring about these side effects:

  • Fatigue
  • Cold extremities
  • Bradycardia
  • Heart failure
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Hallucinations
  • Confusion
  • Sleep disturbances

Precautions

Extra caution should be exercised in patients with the following conditions:

  • Renal failure
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Children
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypoglycaemia

 

Interactions

S-atenolol may interact with the following medicines:

  • Disopyramide
  • NSAIDs
  • Verapamil
  • Clonidine

Signs and symptoms of S-atenolol overdose are severe and fatal cardiovascular depression. Seek medical help immediately.
