RADIATION EFFECTS

Radiation effects are determined by the amount and type of radiation to which you have been exposed. Furthermore, we have been exposed to radiation throughout our lives. As a result, our bodies are built to handle the low amounts we’re exposed to on a daily basis. However, too much radiation can harm tissues by affecting cell structure and causing DNA damage. This can result in major health issues, such as cancer.

Moreover, the amount of harm that radiation exposure can produce is determined by a number of factors, including the dose of radiation, the type of radiation, how you’ve been exposed, where the radiation focuses in the body and how long it lasts there, and how your body is sensitive to radiation.

Furthermore, the effects of radiation are most dangerous to a fetus.  Children, infants, pregnant women, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems are all more susceptible to negative health effects than healthy individuals.

SYMPTOMS

Too much exposure to radiation can cause symptoms, including:

  • Skin burns
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Fever
  • Hair loss
  • Disorientation or dizziness
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Bloody stools and vomit due to internal bleeding
  • Inflammation and swelling of the exposed area

The amount of radiation they get determines how quickly they become ill again, their symptoms, and how sick they become. Also, too much radiation exposure can lead to death.

DIAGNOSIS

Healthcare professionals use a number of measures to evaluate the absorbed radiation dose. This is conducted when a person has been exposed to a high dose of radiation as a result of an attack or accident. Furthermore, this information is crucial for identifying the severity of an illness, the best treatments to take, and whether or not a person will live.

Moreover, these measures include the following:

  • Blood tests
  • Dosimeter
  • Survey meter

TREATMENT

The treatment for radiation effects focuses on treating and decreasing infections, treating burns and injuries, and preventing dehydration. Also, some individuals might need treatments that aid in the recovery of bone marrow.

If you’ve been exposed to certain forms of radiation, your doctor may prescribe a treatment to reduce or eliminate the contamination in your body. Furthermore, treatments for your symptoms may also be provided.
