PRIDINOL

The drug pridinol is a muscle relaxant that is mainly used as an antiparkinsonian and anticholinergic medicine.

Pridinol mesilate is a centrally acting muscle relaxant that is used in the symptomatic treatment of muscle spasm. It is also used as the hydrochloride salt for its antimuscarinic activity in the management of Parkinsonism.

Do not use in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to the product
  • Glaucoma
  • Prostatic hypertrophy
  • Urinary retention syndrome
  • Intestinal obstruction
  • Tachyarrhythmia
  • First trimester of pregnancy

Pridinol may have side effects such as the following:

  • Transient hypotension
  • Hypersensitivity: exanthema, rash, urticaria may occasionally occur
  • Nervous system: occasionally lassitude, sense of debility, and very uncommonly reversible, hallucination, depression, stimulation, abnormal sensation, heaviness in the head, headache, drowsiness etc, may occur
  • Musculoskeletal system: rarely skeletal muscle relaxation, myasthenia
  • Gastrointestinal system: polydipsia, rarely nausea, vomiting
  • Skin: erythema

Precautions

Exercise caution in people with the following conditions:

  • Severe renal insufficiency
  • Impaired liver function

 

Interactions

Pridinol can interact with the following medicines:

  • Phenothiazines
  • CNS inhibitors
  • MAO inhibitors
  • Alcohol
  • Amantadine
  • Quinidine

Pridinol overdose may give rise to the following symptoms:

  • Somnolence
  • Anticholinergic effects of mydriasis
  • Flushing
  • Fever
  • Dry mouth
  • Decreased bowel sounds
  • Tachycardia
  • Mild hypertension
  • Nausea and vomiting
