PARECOXIB

Parecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is structurally related to valdecoxib. It is a selective cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor that is given to reduce pain and inflammation.

Parecoxib is usually given to reduce post-operative pain.

Do not use in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • History of allergy to sulphonamides
  • History of bronchospasm
  • Acute rhinitis
  • Nasal polyps
  • Angioneurotic edema
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Severe liver impairment
  • Pregnancy (3rd trimester)
  • Lactation

Parecoxib may have the following side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Pharyngitis
  • Alveolar osteitis
  • Anaemia
  • Hypokalemia
  • Hypoesthesia
  • Hypertension
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Anaphylaxis

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Heart disease
  • History of cerebrovascular disease and upper gastrountestinal perforation
  • Obese or dehydrated patient
  • Severe kidney impairment and moderate liver impairment
  • Elderly
  • Children

 

Interactions

Parecoxib may interact with the following medicines:

  • Diuretics
  • Antihypertensives
  • Tacrolimus
  • Ciclosporin
  • Warfarin or other anticoagulants
  • Lithium

If you think you may have used Parecoxib more than the usual dose, seek medical help immediately.
