PARECOXIB

Parecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is structurally related to valdecoxib. It is a selective cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor that is given to reduce pain and inflammation.

Uses

Parecoxib is usually given to reduce post-operative pain.

Warnings

Do not use in people with the following conditions:

Hypersensitivity
History of allergy to sulphonamides
History of bronchospasm
Acute rhinitis
Nasal polyps
Angioneurotic edema
Inflammatory bowel disease
Severe liver impairment
Pregnancy (3rd trimester)
Lactation

Side Effects

Parecoxib may have the following side effects:

Nausea
Pharyngitis
Alveolar osteitis
Anaemia
Hypokalemia
Hypoesthesia
Hypertension
Abdominal pain
Vomiting
Anaphylaxis

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

Heart disease
History of cerebrovascular disease and upper gastrountestinal perforation
Obese or dehydrated patient
Severe kidney impairment and moderate liver impairment
Elderly
Children

Interactions

Parecoxib may interact with the following medicines:

Diuretics
Antihypertensives
Tacrolimus
Ciclosporin
Warfarin or other anticoagulants
Lithium
