PARACETAMOL + METOCLOPRAMIDE

Metoclopramide is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as dopamine antagonists. It binds to D2 receptors in the brain and nerves. It has anticholinesterase and can stop vomiting. Paracetamol can relieve fever and pain.

Paracetamol + Metoclopramide is for the treatment of migraine.

Paracetamol + Metoclopramide should not be given to breastfeeding women as well as children less than 12 years.

Paracetamol + Metoclopramide can give rise to the following side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Allergic reactions
  • Skin rashes
  • Acute renal tubular necrosis
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Depression
  • Lassitude
  • Extrapyramidal reactions (especially if combined with phenothiazines)
  • Galactorrhoea
  • Parkinsonism
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
  • Tardive dyskinesia.
  • Blood dyscrasias (e.g. thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis)
  • Liver damage
  • Hypertensive crisis in patients with pheochromocytoma

Precautions

Caution should be taken in the following cases:

  • Porphyria
  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinsonism
  • History of depression
  • Pregnancy
  • Renal or hepatic impairment
  • Phaeochromocytoma

 

Interactions

Paracetamol + Metoclopramide may interact with the following medicines:

  • Anticholinergics
  • Opioid analgesics

Symptoms of overdose include damage to the liver. Seek medical help immediately.
