OXACILLIN SODIUM

Oxacillin sodium is an antibiotic drug that is used to treat skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory infections, ear and throat infections, endocarditis and peritonitis. It is a narrow spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the penicillin class of antibiotics. This drug is used to treat penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria.

Oxacillin Sodium is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Infections caused by Staphylococci
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Ear-nose-throat infections
  • Bone infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Endocarditis
  • Peritonitis

Do not give Oxacillin Sodium to people with hypersensitivity to this drug.

  • Oxacillin Sodium may have the following side effects:
    • Skin rash
    • Fever
    • Angioedema
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Diarrhea
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting and abdominal pain
    • Seizures after high doses particularly with impaired renal function

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

Interactions

Oxacillin Sodium may interact with the following medicines:

  • Estrogen
  • Tetracycline
  • Penicillin
  • Probenicid
  • Amoxicillin

Symptoms of overdose include the following:

  • Seizure activity
  • Asterixis
  • Neuromuscular excitability
