Orphenadrine is a tertiary amine antimuscarinic drug that binds and inhibits both histamine H1 receptors and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA) receptors. It exerts antiparkinsonian action by inhibiting the stimulation of excess central cholinergic effects that occur due to dopamine deficiency. It reduces skeletal muscle spasms possibly by its atropine-like effect on the medulla or on cerebral motor centers and has a mood elevating effect.
