NYSTATIN (ORAL)

Nystatin is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus. It works by weakening cell membranes of the sensitive fungus. This allows the cell contents to leak out and results in death of the fungus.

Uses

This medication is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, mouth, vagina, and intestinal tract. Fungal medicines will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Warnings

Do not use Nystatin if you are allergic to any ingredient in Nystatin.

Side Effects

Nystatin may cause some side effects. However, most side effects usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects persist or worsen.

Before using Nystatin, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

If you are allergic to Nystatin or any other drugs
If you are taking other medicines including prescription and non-prescription
If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while using Nystatin, call your doctor

Some medicines may interact with Nystatin. However, no specific interactions with Nystatin suspension are known at this time. Tell your doctor all the medicines you are taking including prescription, non-prescription and herbal medicines.

Overdose & Brands

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms may include:

Diarrhea
High blood pressure
Nausea
Serious Irregular Heartbeat
Vomiting
Wheezing
