NOREPINEPHRINE BITARTRATE

Norepinephrine bitartrate is a drug that is also known as l-arterenol, levarterenol or l-norepinephrine. It is a sympathomimetic amine drug that is different from epinephrine because it has no methyl group on the nitrogen atom. It belongs to the family of catecholamines that act in the brain and the body as a hormone and neurotransmitter. It directly stimulates adrenergic receptors, giving rise to elevated blood pressure and heart rate.

Norepinephrine Bitartrate is used in the following:

  • Acute hypertension or shock
  • Septicemia caused by shock
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Hypotension
  • Acute hypotension during anesthesia
  • Secondary treatment for cardiac arrest

Do not give Norepinephrine Bitartrate to the following:

  • Those with an excessive increase in blood pressure
  • Acute pulmonary edema action
  • Arrhythmia
  • Metabolic acidosis

Norepinephrine Bitartrate may have the following side effects:

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Low blood pressure
  • High blood pressure
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Renal dysfunction
  • Pulmonary heart disease
  • Severe arrhythmia
  • Patients with finger, toes, nose anesthetized
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Interactions

Norepinephrine Bitartrate may interact with the following medicines:

  • Monoamine oxide inhibitors
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Parturifacients
  • Antihistamines
  • Drugs for thyroid gland
  • Guanethidine
  • Spironolactone
