Norelgestromin is a progestogenic compound used for contraception and menopausal hormone therapy. Ethinylestradiol is a synthetic estrogen compound which decreases gonadotropic hormone to prevent ovulation and decreases luteinizing hormone to reduce endometrial vascularization. This combination of contraceptives works by suppressing gonadotropins which thickens the cervical mucus to prevent sperm form travelling into the uterus, preventing changes in the endometrium, thus leading to inhibition of ovulation.
