NEOMYCIN + DEXAMETHASONE + ACETIC ACID

Neomycin + Dexamethasone + Acetic Acid is a drug that is made up of Neomycin, Dexamethasone and Acetic Acid. This preparation is usually given as an ear antiseptic. Neomycin is an antibiotic for bacteria while dexamethasone is a corticosteroid for inflammation. Acetic acid is an acidic substance that controls bacterial infections.

Neomycin + Dexamethasone + Acetic Acid is used in the treatment of otitis externa.

  • Hypersensitivity to neomycin, dexamethasone or acetic acid
  • Known or suspected perforation of tympanic membrane or where a tympanostomy tube (grommet) is in situ

Neomycin + Dexamethasone + Acetic Acid may have the following side effects:

  • Skin sensitization or hypersensitivity leading to burning
  • Stinging
  • Irritation
  • Itching
  • Dermatitis

Take extra caution in patients with the following medines:

  • Children
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

 

Interactions

Neomycin + Dexamethasone + Acetic Acid may interact with the following medicines:

  • Other aminoglycosides (e.g. paromomycin)
  • Bacitracin
  • Cisplatin
  • Vancomycin
  • Amphotericin B
  • Polymyxin B
  • Colistin
  • Viomycin
  • Potent diuretics (e.g. ethacrynic acid, furosemide)
