LIVER CANCER TREATMENT

Liver cancer treatment is important, for a liver cancer is a disease that starts in the cells of your liver. The liver is located in the upper-right portion of your abdomen, underneath your diaphragm, and just above your stomach.

In the liver, a few types of cancer can form. Among these, the most prevalent is hepatocellular carcinoma, which starts its abnormal cell growth in the primary type of liver cell (hepatocyte). Cancer spreading to the liver is more common than cancer originating solely in the hepatocytes. Metastatic cancer is the type of cancer that spreads to other organs. This kind of disease is named after the organ where it started, for example, metastatic colon cancer to portray a disease that starts in the colon and spreads to the liver.

SYMPTOMS

Signs and symptoms may include the following:

  • Abdominal swelling
  • General weakness and fatigue
  • Losing weight without trying
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • White, chalky stools
  • Yellow discoloration of your skin and the whites of your eyes (jaundice)

DIAGNOSIS

Tests and diagnostics used to analyze liver cancer include:

Blood tests. Blood tests may uncover liver function variations from the norm.

Imaging tests. Your primary care physician may suggest imaging tests, for example, an ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI.

Biopsy. In the lab, specialists analyze the tissue under a microscope to search for malignant cell growth. Liver biopsy conveys a danger of bleeding, bruising, and infection.
