LEVOCETIRIZINE DIHYDROCLORIDE

Levocetirizine (as levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is a third-generation non-sedative antihistamine, developed from the second-generation antihistamine cetirizine. An antihistamine is a class of drug that blocks a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.

Relief of allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching.

Do NOT use levocetirizine if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in levocetirizine or to cetirizine
  • you have severe kidney problems or you are receiving dialysis
  • the patient is a child 6 months to 11 years old who has kidney problems

Drowsiness, tiredness, and dry mouth may occur. Fever or cough may also occur, especially in children. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Precautions

Before taking levocetirizine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to cetirizine; or to hydroxyzine; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

 

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other products that cause drowsiness including alcohol, other antihistamines (such as diphenhydramine), drugs for sleep or anxiety (such as alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, and narcotic pain relievers (such as codeine).

 

 

Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness in adults and initially, agitation and restlessness, followed by drowsiness in children. If overdose is suspected, bring the victim to the hospital immediately.
