Lactobacillus acidophilus + estriol is a medicine that contains the probiotic lactobacillus acidophilus and estriol, a major form of estrogen that is present in the urine.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a type of bacteria that is gram-positive and that normally live in the gut as well as in the genitals and urinary system, without giving rise to illnesses. It acts to fight against genital infections such as thrush or bacterial vaginosis. Estriol helps with vaginal dryness and other symptoms that are associated with menopause.

Lactobacillus acidophilus + estriol is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Restoration of the Lactobacillus flora after local and/or systemic treatment with anti-infective or chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Atrophic vaginitis due to estrogen deficiency during menopause and post-menopause, or as co-medication to systemic hormone replacement therapy
  • Vaginal discharge of unknown origin or mild to intermediate cases of bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis, where use of anti-infective therapy is not absolutely necessary

Do not give Lactobacillus acidophilus + estriol in people with the following conditions:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Known or suspected estrogen-dependent tumors
  • Pregnancy
  • Previous use of steroids
  • Thrombosis
  • Vaginal bleeding

Lactobacillus acidophilus + estriol may have the following side effects:


Take extra caution in the following conditions:

  • During menstruation
  • Pregnancy (1st trimester)
