KETOGENIC DIET

Ketogenic diet is a diet that encourages the body to produce ketones in the liver. This is made possible by consuming a diet that has less carbohydrates and high in fat. This is based on the principle that when you consume food that is high in carbs, the body will produce more insulin and glucose. Thus, by lowering the intake of carbs, the body will lower its production on glucose and the body enters a state called ketosis.

Ketosis is a process in the body that helps it survive when food intake is slow. In this state, the body creates ketones from the breakdown of fats in the body. A ketogenic diet is said to increase muscle mass and lose weight.

There are many types of ketogenic diets:

Standard Ketogenic Diet (SKD). This is the classic ketogenic diet.

Targeted Ketogenic Diet (TKD). This is a standard ketogenic diet but a small amount of fast-digesting carbs is usually eaten before a workout.

Cyclical Ketogenic Diet (CKD). This is for bodybuilders because it allows you to consume carbs and stock up on your glycogen stores once a week.
