INFLUENZA A H7

Influenza A H7 is one of the subtypes of the influenza virus. It is a highly pathogenic avian influenza that circulates among birds. It may cause a severe respiratory disease and even death. However, the induction of the human innate immune response to H7 virus infection has not been well characterized.

Symptoms of Influenza A H7 usually include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of Breath

Complications may result to conjunctivitis and mild upper respiratory symptoms.

DIAGNOSIS

Like other Influenza viruses, diagnosing this subtype may be done through lab tests.

TREATMENT

Some influenza antiviral drug called neuraminidase inhibitor are said to be effective against A H7.  They include Oseltamivir and Zanamivir.

PREVENTION

No vaccine has been developed to specifically prevent Influenza A H7. Hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene are the best way to get rid of the virus or to prevent it from spreading. Always wash your hands before, during and after you prepare food. When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth or nose.
