Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium

Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium is a combination drug that is composed of two medicines: indacaterol and glycopyronium.

Indacaterol is a LABA medication and glycopyrrolate belongs to a class of medications known as anticholinergics. The two medications are additionally known as bronchodilators.

This kind of drug is a long-acting muscarinic receptor antagonist. The said drug causes bronchodilatation by hindering acetylcholine at muscarinic receptor subtypes 1 to 3 in the smooth muscles of the lungs. It is used to improve breathing problems caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to prevent it from recurring. At the same time, it can be a preventive aid for some symptoms like wheezing, coughing and even shortness of breath. It also helps reduce long-term symptoms.

This drug is long-acting and can work throughout the day. It must be taken everyday. In addition this drug is an ingredient in medical inhalants and is used as a breeze haler inhaler device.

 

Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium is used in the following conditions:

  • Maintenance therapy in COPD

Do not use Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium in people with the following conditions:

  • Monotherapy for the treatment of asthma
  • Acute bronchospasm
  • Acute episodes of COPD

Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium may have the following side effects:

  • Central nervous system depression
  • Angioedema
  • Urticaria
  • Hypertension
  • Increased heart rate
  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Pyrexia
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Paresthesia
  • Paradoxical bronchospasm

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Patient with arrhythmias
  • Coronary insufficiency
  • Hypertension
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Thyrotoxicosis
  • Hypokalaemia
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Renal impairment
  • End-stage kidney disease
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

 

Interactions

Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium may interact with the following medicines:

  • Xanthine derivatives
  • Steroids
  • Diuretics
  • May potentiate heart effects with MAOIs
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • QTc-prolonging agents
  • Beta-blockers
  • Anticholinergic drugs
