Immune-Boosting Vitamins

Aside from a healthy lifestyle and diet, daily intake of vitamins can help boost your immune system to fight disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Immune-boosting vitamins include Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin E.

Vitamin C promotes the production of white blood cells, which help protect the body against infection. A powerful antioxidant, it also helps these infection-fighting cells function more effectively while protecting them from damage by harmful free radicals.

Fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C are papaya, strawberries, bell peppers, broccoli, and citrus fruits like guava, calamansi (Philippine lime), and dayap (key lime).

Our immune system needs Vitamin B6 to produce immune cells, which defend the body against disease-causing germs. Good sources of vitamin B6 include pork, chicken, fish,

bread, oatmeal, brown rice, eggs, vegetables, soya beans, peanuts, milk, potatoes, and fortified breakfast cereals.

Vitamin E is another powerful antioxidant that helps the body fight off infection by strengthening the body’s natural immune response. It is vital in the development of immune cells that fight specific disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Good sources of vitamin E include vegetable oils, margarine, nuts and seeds, leafy vegetables, and fortified cereals.

Aside from food sources, we can also get our daily dose of vitamins and essential nutrients by taking vitamins. Shop for your vitamins and other health essentials at Watsons. Click here to start shopping!
