ICHTHYOSIS

Ichthyosis refers to a moderately significant buildup of skin issue which is described as dry surface scales. It is viewed as an abnormality of keratinization or cornification, and it is because of irregular epidermal metabolism.

TYPES

There are various types of ichthyosis and one of them is ichthyosis vulgaris,,  the mildest among all. It regularly starts during childhood.

SYMPTOMS

If you’re experiencing ichthyosis as a result of allergies, seek medical help immediately.

The symptoms that correspond to each type of acquired ichthyosis are the following:

  • Ichthyosis vulgaris – The skin here seem normal during birth and the condition starts before the age of one. It is described as dry and textured skin.
  • X-linked ichthyosis- Scales are active at or soon after birth. It usually affects males
  • Lamellar ichthyosis- The type that is found on babies; scales cover the entire body
  • Epidermolytic ichthyosis -The skin is sodden, red and tender during childbirth, with accompanying blistering

DIAGNOSIS

In some cases it’s mild, to the point that it would appear like regular dry skin. If the dryness and scaling bother you, visit a dermatologist, a doctor who treats skin diseases, so that you can be treated

Your doctor may take a sample of your skin to check under a microscope. This process is called a biopsy. He or she may likewise test your saliva for changes  that can bring about ichthyosis.

TREATMENT

You can rub moisturizing creams and ointments onto your skin every day to add moisture. Go for rich creams that have any of these ingredients: lanolin, alpha hydroxy acids, urea, or propylene glycol. Topical preparations containing ceramides or cholesterol can also keep the skin nourished.
