HYDROCORTISONE + FUSIDIC ACID

Bivalirudin

Hydrocortisone + Fusidic acid is a combination drug that consists of a steroid and an antibacterial agent. Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive properties. Fusidic acid is an antibacterial that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis; it is effective against gram-positive organisms specifically Staph aureus.

Hydrocortisone + Fusidic acid is used as a cream or ointment containing hydrocortisone 1% and fusidic acid 2% for the treatment of skin infections with inflammation.

Do not give Hydrocortisone + Fusidic acid to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to fusidic acid and its salts
  • Bacterial infections caused by non-susceptible organisms
  • Fungal infections
  • Skin manifestations due to tuberculosis
  • Syphilis
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • Rosacea

Hydrocortisone + Fusidic acid can give rise to the following side effects:

  • Dryness
  • Itching
  • Burning
  • Local irritation
  • Transient stinging
  • Striae
  • Skin atrophy
  • Pigmentation changes
  • Hypertrichosis
  • Telangiectasia may occur
  • Acne rosacea or perioral dermatitis may occur if used on the face

Special precautions should be used in people with the following conditions:

  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataracts
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Do not use near eyes. Do not place under occlusive dressings.

Do not use for more than 14 days.

 

Interactions

Hydrocortisone + Fusidic acid may interact with the following medicines:

  • Antistaphylococcal penicillin
  • Ciprofloxacin

If you think you may have used Hydrocortisone + Fusidic acid more than the usual dose, seek medical help immediately.
