HEXOPRENALINE

Hexoprenaline is a direct-acting sympathomimetic with predominantly β-adrenergic activity selective to β2-receptors.

Hexoprenaline is used in the relief of bronchoconstriction and premature labor.

Avoid in the following conditions:

  • Patients with heavy genital haemorrhage
  • Premature separation of the placenta
  • Intra-uterine infections
  • Severe myocardial insufficiency
  • Diabetes or hypertension
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding woman

Hexoprenaline may give rise to the following side effects:

  • Tachycardia
  • Palpitation
  • Skeletal muscle tremor (on high and cumulative doses)

Precautions

Take extra caution in the following conditions:

  • Heart disease
  • Severe hypertension and hypotension
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Diabetes
  • Patients who respond unusual to sympathomimetics
  • Thyrotoxicosis
  • Tachycardiac arrhythmias
  • Myocarditis
  • Hypotension
  • Severe renal disease
  • Mitral valve defects
  • Idiopathic hypertrophic subvalvular aortic stenosis

 

 

Interactions:

Hexoprenaline may interact with the following medicines:

  • MAOIs
  • TCAs
  • β-blockers
  • Calcium- and vitamin D-containing preparations
  • Dihydrotachysterol
  • Mineralocorticoids
  • Methylxanthines
  • Glucocorticoids

Among the manifestations of intoxication: a feeling of anxiety or anxiety, the development of hyperhidrosis, headaches, small-scale tremor of distal character, severe form of tachycardia, and in addition disorders of heart rhythm, dyspnoea and cardialgia. If overdose, there is also a chance of decrease in blood pressure.
