GOTU KOLA

Gotu Kola (with a scientific name, Centella asiatica) is a perennial creeping herb in the carrot family that grows in shady, moist, or marshy areas. It is commonly used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine and is distributed widely in many parts of the world to use as medicine.

This plant is used to treat several diseases and conditions, including:

  • Bacterial, Viral, or Parastitic Infections (Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), Shingles, Leprosy, Cholera, Dysentery, Syphilis, the Common Cold, Influenza, H1N1 (Swine) Flu, Elephantiasis, Tuberculosis and Schistosomiasis)

Do not use Gotu Kola:

  • If you are allergic to it.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Common side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Itching

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Severe Allergic reaction may occur while taking this. Seek immediate medical attention if you experienced rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue.

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are to undergo any surgery.
  • If you have a history of diabetes, epilepsy or liver diseases.

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.
