GLYCOPYRROLATE

Glycopyrrolate is an anticholinergic that works by blocking the activity of a certain substance (acetylcholine) in the body. This act decreases secretions and side effects caused by medicines that may increase the action of acetylcholine in the body.

Glycopyrrolate solution is used to reduce excessive drooling or saliva in patients that have medical conditions such as cerebral palsy.

Do not use Glycopyrrolate if you are:

  • Allergic to any ingredient in Glycopyrrolate
  • Being treated for a peptic ulcer and you also have glaucoma, urinary blockage (eg, inability to urinate), certain stomach or bowel problems (eg, stomach or bowel blockage, bowel paralysis, severe ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon), myasthenia gravis, or heart problems caused by bleeding
  • Taking a solid oral doseform of Potassium

If any of these apply to you, contact your doctor or health care provider immediately.

Glycopyrrolate may cause the following side effects:

  • Dry Mouth
  • Decreased Sweating
  • Difficulty Urinating
  • Blurred Vision
  • Vision Problems
  • Loss of Taste
  • Headaches
  • Nervousness
  • Confusion
  • Drowsiness
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty Falling Asleep or Staying Asleep
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Bloated Feeling

Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:

  • Diarrhea
  • Rash or Hives
  • Difficulty Breathing or Swallowing

Precautions

Before taking Glycopyrrolate, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are/have:

  • Allergic to it; or if you have any other Allergies.
  • Medical history of the following:
    • Personal or Family History of Glaucoma (Angle-Closure Type)
    • Problems with Urination (such as Urinary Tract Blockage, Severely Enlarged Prostate)
    • Stomach/Intestinal Problems (such as Chronic Constipation, Slow Gut, Intestinal Blockage/Infection, Ulcerative Colitis)
    • Myasthenia Gravis
    • Kidney Problems

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. Tell your doctor all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products).

Some products that may interact with this drug are:

  • Potassium chloride tablets/capsules
  • Pramlintide

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Fever
  • Mental/mood changes (such as confusion, unusual excitement)
  • Seizures
  • Coma
