GALLAMINE TRIETHIODIDE

Gallamine triethiodide is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as benzylisoquinolinium competitive neuromuscular blockers. It can create muscle relaxation during general anaesthesia in surgical procedures and in mechanical ventilation.

Gallamine triethiodide is used in the following:

  • As muscle relaxant in general anesthesia
  • Controlled ventilation

Gallamine triethiodide should not be given to people with the following medical conditions:

  • Severe kidney impairment
  • Hypersensitivity to iodine
  • Mysasthenia gravis

Gallamine triethiodide may have the following side effects:

  • Tachycardia
  • Increased Blood pressure

Precautions

Care should be done in titrating the dose and monitoring to prevent overdosage.

 

Interactions

Gallamine triethiodide may interact with the following medicines:

  • Lidocaine
  • Procainamide
  • Quinidine
  • Verapamil
  • Clindamycin
  • Polymyxins
  • Anticholinesterases
  • Corticosteroids
